Peter Stuyvesant- Established America's First Volunteer Fireman |
America’s first volunteer firemen. He was born in the Netherlands in 1592 and died in 1672.
Mr. Stuyvesant served in the Dutch Army and he was a governor and he lost a leg in an attack t the Portuguese Island of St. Martin. he later moved to America and he was appointed director at
New Amsterdam on May 11, 1647.
As a director of New Amsterdam he organized a council and made a court. But he was unpopular because he was a bit of a dictator leader and he got in trouble a lot with other colonist leaders.
Even though he was tough, every thing was organized and he created a lot of things for the colony like trading with other countries and people felt safe with him around because
